A New Beginning
On 16 June 2022 my latest contract as a project manager in banking ended. I am now gainfully unemployed with some grand plans.
I had a career in banking that started in a dealing room in the 90s — the Wolf of Wall Street days — as a trader’s assistant. It was fierce. It was fun. I went on to risk management and then project management. This twenty-five-year career as had its highs and lows. It’s taken me from the UK to Australia and I’ve made many good friends on the way.
I’ve just always had this feeling that I have contorted myself into an a shape that isn’t me. Ten years ago I took a break from banking and spent four years as a personal training. This wasn’t me either. So I went back into banking — those golden handcuffs got me again.
It was my yearning for something else that led me to my Nile expedition and becoming an adventurer. I love it, but it doesn’t pay the bills.
I want to do something more meaningful and of value. So here I am at the start of a new chapter, and launching ‘Explore Your Possible’. I am setting up a practice as a writer, speaker and coach.
The day after my contract finished, I announced my plans on Instagram with a story (below) to really make this change real (and create some accountability).
Writing
My initial focus is the launch of my book — ‘Paddle the Nile: One Woman’s Search For a Life Less Ordinary’.
I’ll also continue writing on Medium, most of which I share in my newsletter as well as posting on here. The newsletter includes recommendations of things to watch, read and listen to along with recognising adventures achievements and sharing ideas of things to do.
Speaking
After the book, the next focus will be speaking. I began speaking prior to COVID, and will really look to get this going.
Coaching
This will come later.
I am incredibly excited (as well as a little bit anxious) to be starting this. I really appreciate all the support I’ve been given already. I look forward to sharing more on here and hopefully begin to help people and make a difference.
